Medical Weight Loss in Singapore

Medical weight loss at Accord Medical Clinic is a doctor-led programme run under Singapore's MOH and HSA framework by a Family Physician with over 15 years of weight-management experience. Every plan starts with a clinical assessment — not a package — and combines nutrition, activity, treatment where appropriate, and long-term follow-up.

01 · The programme

Our weight management programme in Singapore

The programme runs in five stages. Nobody is sold a plan before they have been assessed, and the plan changes as your results and tolerance change.

  1. 01

    Medical assessment

History, current medications, examination, measurements and relevant blood results — establishing what is driving weight gain in your case before anything is recommended.

  2. 02

    A plan built for you

Nutrition and activity targets set against your own routine, work pattern and medical constraints, with clear markers for what progress should look like.

  3. 03

    Treatment where appropriate

If clinically indicated, your doctor discusses prescription treatment with you — what it does, what to expect, and what the alternatives are. Treatment is never assumed.

  4. 04

    Monitoring and adjustment

Regular review of weight, measurements, tolerance and relevant bloods. The plan is adjusted on evidence, not on a fixed schedule.

  5. 05

    Long-term maintenance

The phase most programmes skip. Keeping weight off needs its own plan, and it is part of the programme rather than an afterthought.

02 · Medical supervision

What makes this medically supervised weight loss

Doctor-led weight loss in Singapore means a registered doctor is accountable for the plan at every stage — the assessment, the decisions, the monitoring and the adjustments. It is the difference between a clinical programme and a commercial slimming package.

One accountable doctor

The same Family Physician assesses, prescribes, monitors and adjusts — no handover between staff between visits.

Assessed, not sold

Nothing is recommended before assessment. If medical weight loss is not appropriate for you, we will say so.

Monitored on evidence

Progress is tracked with measurements and, where relevant, blood results — not by weight on a scale alone.

Conservative prescribing

Prescription treatment is used only where clinically appropriate, at the lowest effective dose, and reviewed at every visit.

04 · Your first visit

What happens at your weight loss consultation

01

History and goals

What you have tried, what happened, what you want to change, and what your medical history allows.

02

Examination

Weight, height, BMI, waist measurement, blood pressure, and other checks relevant to your case.

03

Investigations

Where useful, blood work covering metabolic markers, liver and kidney function and thyroid.

04

Your plan

The doctor explains what is appropriate for you, the options, and the follow-up interval before you leave.

Consultation charges are published on our consultation rates page. Health screening can be arranged at the same visit where it is clinically useful.

05 · Eligibility

Is medical weight loss suitable for me?

Singapore uses the Asian BMI scale, because metabolic complications appear at lower BMIs in Asian populations. BMI is a starting point for a conversation, not a decision — your history, measurements and blood results all matter.

Check your BMI
Underweight
Below 18.5
Healthy weight
18.5 – 22.9
Overweight
23.0 – 27.4
Obese
27.5 and above

BMI is a screening tool and not a diagnosis. Individual assessment should be performed by a qualified healthcare professional.

06 · Treatment

Where GLP-1 medication may fit in

Where it is clinically appropriate, your doctor may discuss prescription treatment as one part of the plan — always alongside nutrition, activity and follow-up, never instead of them. GLP-1 receptor agonists are one class that may be considered. Treatment is not suitable for everyone, and whether any medication is right for you is a decision made in consultation after assessment.

In line with Singapore's Health Products (Advertisement of Specified Health Products) Regulations, this website does not name, price or promote prescription medicines. Treatment is discussed only in consultation.

07 · Why Accord

Choosing a weight loss clinic in Singapore

A clinic, not a centre

Accord is a family medicine clinic. Weight management sits inside general medical care, so your other conditions are managed by the same doctor.

Western medicine and acupuncture

Dr Wang is qualified in both and can combine them where appropriate — an uncommon combination in Singapore.

Honest about limits

No guaranteed outcomes, no before-and-after marketing, no exaggerated claims. Clinical evidence and your own results only.

Convenient follow-up

In-clinic review, WhatsApp teleconsultation and medicine delivery keep long-term follow-up practical.

08 · Questions

Medical weight loss questions

What is medical weight loss?

Medical weight loss is weight management supervised by a doctor. It begins with a clinical assessment of your history, measurements and relevant blood results, and combines nutrition, activity, behavioural support and — where clinically appropriate — prescription treatment, with regular medical review throughout.

How is doctor-led weight loss different from a slimming programme?

A doctor-led programme is a clinical service: a registered doctor assesses you, decides what is appropriate, monitors your response and adjusts the plan. A commercial slimming package sells a fixed programme in advance. At Accord you are assessed before anything is recommended.

Who is medical weight loss suitable for?

It may be appropriate for adults whose weight is affecting their health or who have tried to lose weight without lasting results. Suitability depends on your BMI, waist measurement, medical history and current medications — which is what the first consultation establishes.

How much weight can I expect to lose?

That varies between individuals and depends on your starting point, your medical history and how the plan is followed. Clinically meaningful benefit generally begins at around five to ten percent of body weight. The clinic does not promise a specific figure.

What does the first weight loss consultation cost?

Consultation charges are published on our consultation rates page. The charge covers the consultation itself; investigations, screening and any treatment are separate and are explained to you before they are arranged.

Does medical weight loss always involve medication?

No. Nutrition, activity and behavioural change are the foundation of every plan. Medication is considered only where it is clinically appropriate for the individual patient, and it is always used alongside those foundations rather than in place of them.

How often will I be seen?

Follow-up is usually more frequent at the start, while your response and tolerance are being established, and less frequent once you are stable. Your doctor sets the interval with you at the first consultation.

Can I be seen by teleconsultation?

Follow-up reviews can often be done by WhatsApp video teleconsultation. A first assessment is normally done in clinic, because measurements and examination are part of it.

Is weight management claimable under MediSave or insurance?

Coverage depends on your policy and on the clinical indication. Ask the clinic when you book and we will tell you what is and is not claimable for your situation.

Where is the clinic?

Accord Medical Clinic is at Blk 325 Ubi Avenue 1, #01-701, Singapore 400325 — about five minutes on foot from Ubi MRT station on the Downtown Line.
